We are now in our typhoon season. What better way to deal with it by having a book summit.
The National Book Development Board (NBDB) in partnership with the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) will be hosting a literary summit that will focus on content for children. It is entitled "Umuulan ng Libro: Philippine Children's Book Summit." This event will be held at Elements At Centris, EDSA corner Quezon City on July 21, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Registration fee is Php. 600 with students getting a 50% discount upon presentation of school ID.
This event will feature children's book from our local publishers. One of the highlights would be Wen Dee Tan, winner of the Illustrator's Award at the 2015 Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, as a speaker on different topics such as "Is Reading All About Letters and Words? A Look at Wordless Picture Books."
Comic lovers are also encouraged to attend this event as Budjette Tan (Trese), Carljoe Javier (editor of Abangan: The Best Philippine Komiks 2014, Anino Comics) and Paolo Herras (Meganon Comics) talks on the topic of "A New Breed of Filipino Comics."
Also check out Volume 19 No. 2 of Bookwatch at the NDBD booth. The cover was made by Jemuel Bernaldez.
So bring out that umbrella, wear that hoodie or jacket and head on to this children's book summit.
