Black Ink Comics, brings to us a new set of comics that started last year with their introduction at the Winter Komikon 2012. Among those they released first is book one of The Reaper. The second book was released on Summer Komikon 2013. As of now, only two books out of the eleven for The Reaper series have been released.

The Reaper tells an interesting story on the point of view of those entity that guides the souls after a person dies. They are the temporary care takers of the souls until a judgement has been made and the souls are made to ride either an ordinary or an airconditioned bus, haha hanep nu, on the way their respective final destinations. Book 1, introduces to us all of the different reapers and their abilities on how they collect souls. On the other hand, Book 2 picks up the story of how a reaper thinks of getting back at a human that has hindered him from collecting a soul in time. So far as the story was written, it is quite enjoyable to read such as a part on book 2 wherein it depicts that despite the reaper's busy schedule, he'd still do yoga in order to relax and destress after a busy day of collecting souls. :p As for the illustration, it goes along nicely with the way the story is being told. I just hope that this series goes out well from the beginning until the end. As much as I am anticipating for the release of the rest of the books for this series. hehe.

So far, I recommend buying this comic which can easily be found at most bookstores nationwide.

Movies: Olympus Has Fallen (2013)

Director: Antoine Fuqua
Producer: Gerard Butler
Cast: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman
Genre: Action, Thriller
Rate: 8 / 10

One amazing action film. The film turns out to be better what I had expected from its trailer. Kudos to those involved in the making of the movie, especially to its writer. The action backed up by a good and could be realistic story makes it part of the list of must see on the cinemas.

Though the plot of having the President of the United States of America (played by Aaron Eckhart) in the very White House held hostage by a very well organized terrorist. It seeks to break the wall that has been keeping the war in East Asia from happening. All that is left is to save the president, prevent a war from happening, and also avert an even bigger problem America has faced. All this lies to a former Presidential Secret Service Guard, Mike Banning (played by Gerard Butler). If he fails, well Olympus (the Secret Service Code for White House) will forever be fallen.

Note: If you prefer an action film with a good story line this is highly preferable to watch in comparison to G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.

Events: Summer Komikon 2013

Epic, is the word I must say for this year's Summer Komikon held last April 13, 2013. This year's theme of bringing back the comics to its original targeted audience, which is the kids, led to having children below 12 years old to get inside the venue for free before 12 noon. As a visitor of 3 Komikons (Summer Komikon 2013, Komikon 2011 & 2012) I can say that reception on Philippine Comics is growing. A lot of good works have been released that day, which to my dismay due to the quick drainage of my money that I had brought that day. Well at least I got to take home a lot of great goodies and there's still Komikon 2013 for me to go back to.

My personal highlights for attending the event that day was, (1) claiming the posters I had reserved and bought from the artist of Skyworld and Kadasig (Ian Sta. Maria) hehe. Plus the bonus sketchwork that I also got from him by just bringing a copy of Skyworld that day that's why I really need to get to the venue right away so as to be able to go to his table before the other fans got hold of all his sketches. (2) Next would be being able to buy a copy of Sixty Six and Kadasig from Alamat Comics.

Well I think someone already took the sketch I was aiming for, so I got this instead

(3) On the Visiprint booth, I was happy enough to have been one of the first to buy The Filipino Heroes League 2: The Sword, The Dark Colony: Book 1 (Mikey Recio & The Secret of the Demon Dungeon, and of course Kikomachine Komix Blg.9 Hehe.

While waiting for my books to be signed by Manix, as expected there will be a line, (4) I also got the chance to have Gerry Alanguilan's Wasted after the halt of its printing for years. Well, I must say he's one great writer and artist, which is evident to the line that I saw he had. Naks, he had an even longer line than from the table of the creators of The Dark Colony.

(5) Finally, I got to meet my favorite indie comic creator, Macoy, where I finally got hold on the rest of his School Run series. Also got the chance to talk with him for a short while, wherein I asked when he might be able to release the next installment on School Run. He mentioned that he'll be needing to hurry up finishing that series soon before the crave on Zombie stories fade. He also mentioned for me to stay for awhile because later on the trailer for an indie movie will be shown and it is based on one of his comics. This happened as he said by chance when Maskot was accidentally seen by a director and just decided to create a movie based on it. Hehe, I shall be waiting for this to be shown in the theaters.

Overall this year's Summer Komikon was full of activities that never got me bored. With 7 eleven giving away unlimited free slurpee and one tumbler for each attendee of the event, the release of new comics, up to a proposal done on stage ( a first in Komikon). I guess there's going to be more surprises for us to expect to happen on Komikon 2013.
