Planning your Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) experience this 2023 entails a lot of things like figuring out the schedule of book launches and budgeting your estimated expenses.

One of the things that should be planned is the entrance ticket. Here at One Mantra we got you covered with this list to help you in your MIBF 2023 experience.

These are the different publishers and groups who will be giving away entrance tickets for free.

1. Fully Booked

Drop by at any Fully Booked Metro Manila branch to get a bookmark ticket for MIBF for free. Just head on to the service counter/cashier of the branch. Each bookmark admits two (2) individuals.

Be sure to get those free passes now and see you at the 2023 Manila International Book Fair on September 14 - 17, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

With only a few days left, the 37th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) will once again reunite book lovers.

Tickets are usually the first concern of any attendee of an event. If you want to save up a bit and add that ticket money to a book your planning to buy, One Mantra got you covered with this list to help you in your MIBF 2016.

These are the different publishers and groups who will be giving away those entrance tickets for free.

1. National Book Store

Free entrance passes were given away during the Philippine Readers & Writers Festival 2016. For those who weren't able to attend the event, these free passes could be gotten at the customer service of National Book Store.

2. Anvil Publishing

The small invitation card were given away for free during the different Anvil published book events of The Philippine Readers & Writers Festival 2016.

At the back of the card shows the new releases from Anvil Publishing.

3. Adarna House

Downloadable free tickets from Adarna House are available online. It can be printed either colored or not and as many pieces as you want. Each ticket will grant one (1) person free entrance for one day,

In addition to the downloadable free entrance pass is a raffle stab. Just tear it away from the ticket and drop it off at the Adarna House MIBF 2016 booth for a chance to win one of the five exclusive art prints.

4. OMF Literature

Two (2) downloadable free tickets are available from OMF Literature. It is valid if printed in either  colored or in greyscale and in any size. This can be printed as many times as you want.

The 2nd ticket also acts as a discount coupon for books at the OMF Literature MIBF 2016 booth and some Passage Bookshops.

This ticket, with the 2nd image on the back, can also be gotten for free at the OMF Luzon branches (Boni II, Terraza, Greenbelt 1, and Pergola).

5. Fully Booked

Tickets are available for free by visiting any Fully Booked branch and inquiring at the Customer Service.

Events: Experiencing the 36th Manila International Book Fair

I attended this year's Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) for two days, September 19-20, held at the SMX Convention Center. For a book lover, that time is really needed especially with all the book hunt and book signing that I want to accomplish.

September 19, Saturday

I arrived after attending the Asia Pop Comicon, held at the World Trade Center which was conducted at the same number of days with MIBF.

It was the Mini Comics Festival (MCF) 2015 held by Black Ink Comics (BIC) that I was rushing to attend on this day. Tickets were needed in order to be allowed to get in or you could just buy two (2) BIC books at their MIBF booth and just present the receipt at the event area of MCF.

The MCF 2015 was held around 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Meeting Room 5 of the SMX Convention Center.

It was great to have some of the BIC books be finally signed. Most especially BIC's 12th book which is still in its original black & white cover.

It was great meeting the writer, Herbs Navasca, who wore a pair of blue contact lens on that day, and illustrators, Alvin Bragais, Jana Dhel and Rhea Padullo. A regular attendee of Komikons would easily recognize the multi-talented Jake Vicente.

 

 

The other books that I had purchased on MIBF 2015 on this day came from PSICOM Publishing Corp.

Goodies from Day 1

September 20, Sunday

More books and booths were needed to be found on my 2nd day at the MIBF 2015.

First from my list was Goodwill in which to my surprise was not a participant of this book fair. I just lost the chance to have my hands on a Pediatrics book by Del Mundo.

The next booth was C&E Publishing, Inc. to get my needed medical text books. However, unlike last year's MIBF, C&E Publishing seems to have fewer copies of the latest books on display.

Then, there's Adarna House, a new booth to my eyes that should be checked out. The decorations of their booth was really festive which led them to be awarded as the 1st runner up in the Best in Booth Design Contest.

The last purchase came from Anvil Publishing, who once again were selling their books under National Book Store (NBS). The last book that I purchased was Dean Francis Alfar's A Field Guide to the Roads of Manila. This new book has little promotion on various social media such that I had only come to know of it through word of mouth.

Fully Booked was crazily heavily jam packed this year. I guess they might have been stocking more choices on their shelves than NBS, thus, pulling the attention of book lovers towards them.

In comparision to MIBF 2014, MIBF 2015 seems a bit bland. The booths were still confusing and hard to find. What OMF Literature did was a nice idea that hopefully would be imitated by the other booths for MIBF 2016.

Goodies from Day 2

MIBF 2015 generally feels toned down in terms of excitement on my part. The desire for books is there but the craving was really less. The ambiance did not also go well for me which was probably due to booths that were hard to find, even in the midst of pre-planning my book hunt.

The biggest and longest book fair of the country is back. The countdown for the 36th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) is almost over for it will be held on September 16-20, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

The 36th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) is just around the corner. A lot of preparations should be in place for us book lovers.

For first time attendees, the first question that always comes to the mind is if there's an entrance fee for this event? If there is, how much is it?

Well to answer that question. Yes, there's an entrance fee for the MIBF event. The prices are really cheap to encourage you to go in and unleash the book worm in you. Entrance fee is Php. 20 and a discounted price of Php. 15 for students and senior citizens are also available.

But if you want to be the first in line on a book launch or a book signing event, I guess you don't want to trouble yourself by lining up, in order to buy the entrance ticket.

It can also be gotten on any Metro Manila branches (Boni, Greenbelt 1, Pergola, Il Terrazo). A special surprise can be seen at the lower right corner at the back of those tickets.

This can be downloaded and printed. An addition is the raffle stab that comes with it. Just fill them out and drop it at the Adarna House booth for a chance to win an exclusive 35th anniversary shirt.

3. Meganon Comics and Komiket

This can only be gotten by purchasing any Meganon Comics on events that they will be partaking; such as Southside Collective, 2nd Sikat Pinoy National Art & Fashion Fair and Indieket 2015.

If you had attended the Easter Komiket 2015, you also had the chance to get the free MIBF 2015 ticket.

4. National Book Store

Free entrance passes could be gotten at the customer service of National Book Store (NBS). The schedule of events to be held at the NBS booth on MIBF 2015 could be seen at the back of the pass to guide you on that day.

Events: Experiencing the 35th Manila International Book Fair

The Manila International Book Fair or MIBF, is going to be an annual go-to-event for me. This year, it was held once again at SM Mall of Asia's SMX Convention Center.

My free ticket came from Adarna House. So far it was only that publisher who had a printable free entrance for the event. Although the tickets are really cheap which even has a student and senior discount, it is still worth printing. Mostly it will save you time from falling in line just to buy the entrance ticket.

There are a lot of interesting things that I found in MIBF 2014. One of those is PSICOM selling DC comics for 20% off on their booth.

In Rex Publishing House, they had set up their booth to hold a mini book museum. In here one can see the smallest book in the world. It was said to have been purchased at the Gutenberg Museum, Mainz, Germany in October 2012. The title of the book is "The Lord's Prayer". Nearby is the smallest diary and the smallest calendar. They were purchased in Frankfurt, Germany in February 2012 with the calendar dated for the year 1914.

A new addition to the booths this year is Komikon. This is another nice move from these guys who continue to promote our own local comics and share this love for comics to others.

The book that I was really surprised to see was the legendary Soul Book from Bookmark, Inc.'s booth. It was really pure luck as I happen to catch a tweet from Paolo Chikiamco (@anitero), one of the creators of Mythspace comics and editor for Studio Salimbal and Rocket Kapre.

It has been a good time because after I had bought a copy there were only 2 copies left. Later, after a few minutes of browsing the MIBF, the remaining copies of Soul Book was already gone. That book is really hard to find. Hope you guys also got yours.

It was really a nice day for MIBF. It got me so many good bargain books. Don't forget that super rare book. MIBF should be on the must-go-to-event for a book lover. Especially those in search of rare and old books.

I know this is a super late post but what the heck, maybe there's a bookworm out there who was busy during this weekday that he has forgotten this event.

Events: The 34th Manila International Book Fair

 

It was a crazy day at SM Mall of Asia, Pasig City last Sunday, September 15, 2013. Despite the rainy weather, the grounds were full of vehicles and individuals due to the big events that had took place. The first event is SM Mall of Asia's Big! Big Sale, then there's the UAAP Cheerdance Competition 2013 at SM MOA Arena, and the Best of Anime 2013 at Function Rooms 3 & 4 of the SMX Convention Center. But the event that I'm more interested on during that time was the one that took place on Exhibits 1-4 of the SMX Convention Center which is the 34th Manila International Book Fair.

Crazy weather and traffic it really was on that day.

This 5-day book fair started out last September 11, 2013. It's a book fair that will surely entertain and get the attention of most bookworms. It will also be an attraction to others who are fond of sales since a lot of books being sold there can be bought at discounted prices. Along with these, other events also took place such as story telling for kids, seminars for individuals interested in starting their own book, and even for bloggers. There are also some interesting book launches and book signing that has occurred which geared fans of their respective authors to patiently line up just to get close to them and have their books signed.

While browsing thru the different facebook pages of some publishers that I know, I luckily came across some free entrance tickets to the book fair. Thanks for Anvil Pub. for saving me some money in entering the event. It's really a convenience that most of the publishers, where most of the local books that I got, have posted a line up of the activities that they'll be having at their booths. The three events that caught my attention was the book signing of Manila Noir made by Kajo Baldisimo & Rosario Lucero at the Anvil Pub Booth, the giving away of free comic books at the National Book Store Booth, and the book launch of This is a Crazy Planets Volume 2 by Lourd de Veyra at Summit Media Booth. Among these three, the only thing that I wasn't able to attend was the one done at the National Book Store Booth. As for the book signing at the Anvil Pub. Booth, I only got my book signed by Kajo.

The event at the Summit Media Booth was the one that really made my day at the book fair. As Lourd de Veyra signs a book, Jun Sabayton keeps the line in place and also acts as a barangay tanod as he holds a rattan stick to keep order. All of this he does while entertaining the people in line and the crowd as well. It was also the first time that I had drank an alcoholic beverage at a book signing, as Lourd made it a new policy that any man who comes at the table should have a shot first before his book gets signed. Crazy right? But nonetheless cool and an enjoyable one, although I resisted drinking a little more for it might trigger my cravings to continue drinking upon returning back home. As if things weren't crazy enough, Ramon Bautista sneaked beside the area of the book signing of Summit Media. Well sneak might be the closest word to use since most of the crowd recognized him at once.

It was a memorable experience that day. Thanks to all of the organizers, not only for Summit Media, but for the organizers of the Manila International Book Fair in general. Events like this are always a treat for us book lovers.
